Berwyn Mountains "crash"
At 20:38 a loud bang and tremor shook villages around the Berwyn Mountains, and people saw lights on the hillside. A local nurse drove up and described a glowing sphere. Police searched and found nothing. The event was later retold as a UFO crash with a secret military recovery, sometimes called "the Welsh Roswell". Seismographs recorded an earthquake, and meteor observers logged a fireball at the same moment.
Explanation
A small earthquake shook the area at the same moment that a bright fireball was seen across northern England and Wales. The lights on the hillside were most likely poachers' lamps. Investigators found no crash and no recovery.
