The Navy’s night-vision image shown to Congress — drones
At the House Intelligence subcommittee’s open hearing on unidentified aerial phenomena on May 17, 2022, the first public congressional hearing on the subject in more than fifty years, the Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence, Scott Bray, showed an image taken through night-vision goggles with a single-lens reflex camera during Navy exercises off the East Coast in early 2022. Bray told the committee that, using information from other sightings, the Navy had reclassified the objects as unmanned aerial systems. He also showed an unresolved clip of a small sphere flashing past a Navy fighter’s cockpit. The image is in the Pentagon’s official release on DVIDS.
Explanation
The Navy said the objects were later reclassified as unmanned aerial systems, on the strength of other data and similar sightings.
