Ghost rockets — Lake Kölmjärv

During 1946 Scandinavian observers logged about 2,000 sightings of rocket-like objects. On 19 July a farmer watched one plunge into Lake Kölmjärv; the Swedish Army searched the lake for two weeks and found only a fresh crater in the lakebed.

Explanation

Swedish, British and U.S. investigators found no Soviet rockets; many of ~2,000 reports were meteors, but around 200 radar returns and several crashes into lakes were never explained.
