Radar at USAF-run RAF Bentwaters tracked targets at thousands of miles per hour coming in from the sea. Lakenheath’s ground personnel then saw luminous objects, and RAF de Havilland Venom night fighters were scrambled. One pilot reported locking on before the target appeared behind him; radar showed it following the fighter.

Explanation

The Condon Report judged "the probability that at least one genuine UFO was involved appears to be fairly high"; others propose anomalous radar propagation, meteors and stars.

What was seen

Shape: Fast radar targets; luminous objects
Witnesses: USAF radar operators and ground crew; RAF Venom crews
Duration: About 6 hours
