Río de la Plata — two airliners and a rising light
At about 4 a.m. on Monday, April 4, 2005, the pilot of a Uruguayan Aeromas cargo aircraft that had just left Ezeiza reported a luminous object near his aircraft over the Río de la Plata. The Ezeiza tower suggested it was an engine of a Lufthansa airliner in the area, but the Lufthansa pilot told him he had seen the light too, that it moved upwards and so could not be a meteorite, and called it a missile. A Uruguayan military pilot flying at the same time confirmed a fast luminous object. The reports went through the Carrasco and Ezeiza control towers; the Argentine Air Force recorded the report at Ezeiza, the Argentine armed forces said none of their aircraft or ships were in the area, and the Uruguayan Air Force opened an investigation. No result was published.
