Around midday, residents of Oloron-Sainte-Marie saw a cottony white cylinder tilted at 45°, drifting slowly across a nearly cloudless sky. Around it were about thirty smaller objects moving in zig-zagging pairs. Long white filaments ("angel hair") fell from them onto roofs, trees and wires, then turned to jelly and vanished. A similar event followed at Gaillac ten days later.

Explanation

Most researchers attribute "angel hair" falls to silk from migrating ballooning spiders, common in autumn. The Oloron filaments dissolved and no sample was analysed.
