Trindade Island photographs
DISPUTED
As the Navy survey ship Almirante Saldanha prepared to leave Trindade during the International Geophysical Year, people on deck saw a ringed disc approach from the east, pass over Desejado Peak, turn sharply and leave to the north-west. Photographer Almiro Baraúna took four frames; President Kubitschek allowed their release.
Explanation
The Brazilian Navy examined the negatives and did not declare a hoax; skeptics argue photographer Almiro Baraúna faked them.
